For some time now, there has been the suggestion that the War Memorial should be renovated.
To commemorate the start of the Great War, the Parish Council has worked with the Church and some very dedicated villagers who have helped to secure a significant amount of funding from various sources including Cherwell District Council, the Church, the Parish Council, some fundraising in the village and the National Heritage Lottery fund. The funds will be used to straighten, clean and re-letter the names of the fallen on the memorial and to produce a history of the village’s fallen which will go in the newly re-built Chinnery Room in the Village Hall.
The project to straighten, clean and re-letter the names is now ready to go ahead as soon as the contractors – Underwood and Weston – are able to start which is likely to be towards the end of the summer.
