We are delighted to confirm that we are on schedule with the renovation project. The extension has been demolished and foundations laid. The timber frame is planned to be delivered around 13th July. The main hall will continue to serve hirers until the end of the school term. We plan, if all goes well, to re-open the main hall at the start of September and look forward to welcoming you to an opening event in autumn when the project is complete.
All this is thanks mainly to very generous funding from three local landfill operators through the Landfill Communities Fund.
Any rubbish that is thrown away and cannot be reused ends up in a landfill site. Since 1996, operators of landfill sites collect tax on each tonne of landfill for HM Treasury. The purpose of this tax is to make it more expensive to put waste into landfill, in turn encouraging us to reduce our waste and recycle more.
A small proportion of this tax, currently 6.8%, can be used to support a wide range of community, heritage and environmental and projects which benefit people living within 10 miles of landfill sites, through the Landfill Communities Fund (LCF). Through the LCF over £1 billion has been invested in UK projects. The LCF is regulated on behalf of HM Government’s Revenue & Customs by ENTRUST. In addition to this we received £5000 from The Oxfordshire Community and Environmental trust (TOE2), £1000 from the Doris Field Charitable trust, £800 from Oxfordshire County Council. Fringford Parish Council, which owns the Village Hall, has been very supportive in contributing £10,600 and the Village Hall Management Committee has been able to provide £20,000 which has been accumulated from fundraising events over the last few years.
